Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
(15 hours over 2 days)
While I no longer offer the ASIST training externally to YFC, I highly recommend this training to anyone who is a regular caregiver to those with suicidal thoughts. These trainings are still regularly offered in Canada, often by your local CMHA. Click here to search for a training near you.
If you would like to attend an ASIST course offered by YFC (once per year), please contact me.
ASIST is the gold-standard in suicide intervention training. Created and certified by LivingWorks Education, ASIST has provided life-assisting skills to over one million people worldwide, and is regularly updated and reviewed to reflect the latest academic research on suicide.
“Last year, myself and my two staff had the privilege of taking part in the ASIST course, which was facilitated by Mark. This two day training was highly valuable, interactive, practical, and is something that I would highly recommend to others. Mark was fantastic at teaching the material, answering questions, and giving practical tools and advice on how this training can support us in our roles of working with teens in our community!”
—Grant Dodson, Director, Stratford Youth Unlimited“A youth pastor shared [with me] how he had three girls who attempted suicide in the past. When I asked him about it, he said, “I’ve learned to ask the right questions before it happens.” His intervention method sounded familiar so I questioned him about it. He replied, “I took the ASIST training awhile ago and the one thing I remember is the right questions to ask.”
